Happy Christmas!
It’s been a little while.
Life has very much gotten the better of me, and as a result, this space — and our socials — went a little quiet. Between our first ever trip to Disneyland Paris and a two-week visit to England, November completely disappeared. When I look back, I’ve technically only missed a month of blog posts, but it certainly didn’t feel that way at the time.
While things were quiet here, we certainly didn’t stop creating. Our TPT shop has been receiving all of our newest resources first, so if you’re mainly here for printables and teaching materials, make sure you’re following us over there to stay up to date.
If, however, you’re here for a mix of real-life updates, gentle reflections, and teaching-inspired content, then you’re absolutely in the right place.
Short-form videos will continue to live on TikTok, while photos and smaller updates will be shared on Instagram and Facebook. This blog is where things will slow down a little.
Who We Are & Who This Space Is For
Summers Sensory & Co is rooted in play-based learning, early years practice, and real family life. We’re an English–Dutch family living in Belgium, navigating toddlerhood while creating resources that support children in a gentle, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate way.
This space is for:
parents who value child-led, play-based learning
early years educators looking for adaptable, thoughtful resources
families navigating the ever-changing seasons of babyhood and toddlerhood
anyone who enjoys slower, reflective content alongside practical ideas
Whether you’re here for printables, ideas, or simply to feel a little less alone in this stage of life, you’re very welcome here.
What We’ve Been Working On
This month, we released our Winter Wonderland and Christmas-themed resources, including posters, movement cards, affirmations, and more. These were created with both home and early years settings in mind, and they’ve been so lovely to see in use already.
Looking Ahead to Next Year
Next year, this blog will become more of a private, long-form space. I want it to feel like a place to share deeper reflections rather than quick updates.
Some of the themes I’m planning to explore include:
how we celebrate the winter season as an English–Dutch family living in Belgium
our goals for the year ahead
how our parenting style has evolved now that we officially have a toddler
It will still be rooted in early years practice, but with more of our family life gently woven through it.
New Resources & Units of Work
For those of you here specifically for resources, we have some exciting plans.
We’ll be introducing units of work aimed at children aged 2–8 years, covering:
English
Maths
Science
and the specific areas of learning
Our first unit, launching in January, will focus on bears and hibernation. This has been intentionally designed to link with the resources we already offer for younger children, allowing families and settings with mixed ages to work around the same theme.
For months that include special celebrations — such as Easter or Pride — we’ll continue releasing our usual themed activities rather than full units of work… at least for now.
Longer-Term Plans
By the end of the year, our goal is to begin producing and selling physical resources, including:
calendars
programmes of study
play-based learning sets
I’ll be sharing more about this in a dedicated blog post later this year, titled Our Plans.
Before you go, I’d love to hear from you.
What season of parenting or teaching are you in right now — and what would you love to see more of here next year?
Thank you, as always, for being here — whether you’re here for the resources, the reflections, or a bit of both. It means more than you know.
With warmth,
Summer
